NEW SOFTWARE PROGRAM HELPS
TRACK ASSETS
Toronto--Pc Imageware Corp. has
introduced Asset Minder Pro, a 32-bit Windows
application designed for tracking assets
throughout their lifecycle. According to the
company, the program can help maximize
utilization and reliability of assets while
reducing total cost of ownership.
Asset Minder Pro uses
"location-centric" asset tracking (with
bar code labeling), valuation and maintenance
scheduling to put businesses in control of where
their assets are--particularly moveable
information technology assets.
A report by the Gartner Group
estimates that a networked PC costs US$11,900 per
node for hardware, software, support,
administration and operations. They also estimate
that a savings of 26 per cent can be achieved
with proper deployment and asset management
procedures
For example, simple tracking of
on-site/off-site assets in IT dependent
companies, particularly those with mobile
workforces, will reduce asset loss or shrinkage.
Asset Minder Pro makes use of pop-up alarms to
ensure that maintenance schedules are met,
off-site equipment is returned and assets are not
lost.
Supporting documentation like LAN
diagrams, invoices, spec sheets or warranty cards
can be scanned into the system or brought in as
OLE attachments. Having an accurate database of
information detailing asset locations,
warrantor's and upgrade paths, has the added
benefit of providing a serialized asset list to
ensure insurance coverage is in place and
depreciation expensing is being used to maximum
tax advantage.
