IMAGEWARE WANTS ASSET-MINDED
RESELLERS
Toronto--THE CREATORS of Asset
Minder software are seeking new assets.
PC Imageware President Nick
Francis expects the first Vars to sign up will be
in Vancouver, Calgary, Winnipeg, Kitchener, ON,
and Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal. With an
anticipated expansion into the U.S. next year, he
hopes to add more major centres, including New
York, Buffalo, Atlanta, Dallas, Boston, Los
Angelas, Chicago, Seattle and Washington.
But he adds the number of
recruits will be limited. "What drives Vars
is seeing a big market. [If] there are 50 million
Vars, suddenly the market is not so big anymore.
We are not going to let that happen. We will
probably have a maximum of 10 per city for
somewhere like Toronto."
On the Toronto-based company's
Web site, Francis says: "We believe there is
a significant opportunity for our VAR partners to
get in on the ground floor and make a lot of
money in this virtually untouched market."
Francis believes Asset Minder pro
is set to occupy a previously unnoticed niche in
the market -- tracking and asset cataloguing,
particularly technological assets such as the
software and hardware peripherals found on
networks operated by companies with 15 to 300
workers.
Asset Minder can import lists
compiled by other programs and also export them
in popular formats such as dBase and Excel. It
lists at $399, including two seat licenses.
Additional licenses cost $199 each.
Bt, says Francis, most companies
will likely want the software installed,
presenting golden opportunities for VARs. They
will pay a $1,200 sign-up fee, which will provide
them with a package that includes demo software,
training and exposure on PC Imageware's Web site.
They will be required to retain certified
personnel on their staffs if not personally
qualified.
Francis points to the savings
that can be made by Asset Minder users by
referring to a Gartner Group report which
estimates that networked PCs cost $11,900 (U.S.)
per node for hardware, software, support,
administration and operations. The report also
calculates that 26 per cent could be saved
through measures such as asset management.
Asset Minder Pro will also be
available through retailers together with a SOHO
version that will list for $70.
Minimum requirements are a
486-DX2-66 with 15Mb hard disk space, 8Mb RAM,
mouse or compatible pointing device, CD-ROM, and
Windows 95 or NT Workstation. Optional devices
include a Windows 95 compatible barcode scanner
(capable of reading code 39), TWAIN compliant
image scanner, Windows Label Printer and Windows
printer.
